Biography of Rev. Joel La Torre

Rev. Joel La Torre

Rev. Joel La Torre ia an Ordained Minister of The Church of God denomination. An organization with over 49,000 congregation across the world, with a membership of over 26 million followers. He is currently the Senior Pastor of Living Water Church in Woodland Park, New Jersey. Rev. La Torre has over 10 years of Pastoral Ministry experience.   


Rev. La Torre has served as the Woodland Park Police Chaplain since 2012. Chaplain La Torre is a member of the International Conference of Police Chaplains. 


He is a Student currently enrolled in the New York Theological Seminary, working towards his Doctorate in Pastoral Counseling.  He holds a Bachelors degree in Biblical Studies from Church of God.

What does a Chaplain DO?

The chaplain’s ministry is one of service to law enforcement officers, their families, other department members, and the community. This is accomplished through various means. Of which the key role of the police chaplain is one of presence. 


The specialized pastoral care ministry provided by a Police Chaplain requires a person with a special servant's heart above all else.  Police Chaplains serve a variety of roles in the department. 


 

  • Chaplains are available to counsel a law enforcement officer or other members of the department.
  • Chaplains are available to counsel a member of the departments’ family.
  • Chaplains are available to visit sick or injured officers and department personnel in homes and hospitals.
  • Chaplains are available as a very valuable asset during times of an officer or department death.
  • Chaplains are available to deliver death messages to surviving family members.
  • Chaplains are available to be called to the scene of fatality accidents or locations where a deceased person is found, to help locate and notify the next of kin.
  • Chaplains are available to serve on the department's debriefing/defusing team after traumatic incidents.
  • Chaplains are available and ready to respond to any and all requests from the department for whom they serve.
  • Chaplains lead prayers for special occasions such as departmental meetings, promotions, traumatic situations, and
